month of the fire pig: welcoming the Season of water

On November 7th, the Metal Dragon day took us into the Fire Pig Month and the beginning of the Water Season. Winter has now arrived according to the Chinese Solar Calendar.
As Winter begins to cloak the world in darkness, in the Chinese cycle of seasons, it belongs to the element of Water—deep, dark, icy water, like the ocean under a moonless sky. How perfectly the Fire Pig appears then: a vivid flame dancing on those black waves, a guiding beacon that pierces the night and kindles hope. The Pig is not only associated with the beginning of Winter, but also the evening hours between 9 pm- 11 pm, the moment when we begin to wind down from the day, after a nourishing dinner, when its dark and cold outside. An invitation to hibernate as the nights become longer and the days shorter.

In elemental terms, Water governs emotions, thoughts, and, as the I Ching teaches, the currents of danger and fear. With the swift, sweeping shifts of Period 9 now upon us, uncertainty swirls everywhere, and for many, genuine peril lurks beneath the surface. Water is also associated with the Kidneys, where courage and will are born, yet fear and phobias lurk just beneath the surface.
Fire/Water Clash: The Yin Fire Pig pillar represents an elemental clash, as Fire and Water naturally oppose one another in the five-element cycle. Yin Fire’s warmth and optimism conflicts with Water’s depth and emotional complexity. This internal tension can create a mix of warmth and intensity, with a person experiencing mood swings or fluctuating energy levels. One may feel pulled between their desire for emotional security and their need for personal expression.
This is also the month where the annual Snake directly clashes with the monthly Boar — an axis of Yang Water and Yang Fire, release, movement and awakening. It is this clash, more than anything, that invites us into flow.
The Fire Pig’s counsel this month is simple yet profound: seek out glimmers of light to steer by. Let them be a person, a place, or fleeting sparks of joy and play. Even more anchoring, cultivate a spiritual practice that keeps your own flame alive and steady. If you manage to root that inner light firmly, extend it outward—become a lighthouse for others, a living symbol of hope. The world needs you more than ever right now!
Combinations: Opportunities and Connections
The Fire Pig month also brings specific combinations that can influence your experience:
Tiger Harmony: If you have a Tiger in your chart—especially in your Day Pillar—this month may feel smoother and more supportive. The Tiger's energy aligns well with the Pig, offering a sense of ease and flow.

• Wood Element Trine: The Rabbit, Goat, and Pig form the Wood Element Trine, amplifying Wood influence. Depending on your chart, Fire could represent wealth, intelligence, resources, power, or your sense of self. Reflect on what Wood means for you and how you can harness this dynamic energy.
Water Element Trine: The Pig also joins the Rat and Ox forming the Season of Water. Elementally Water represents our emotions, and thoughts, as well as courage and wisdom.

Who is challenged this month? The King of the Year, the Duke of the Year, you dear Snake! Now its your turn to be clashed and give the poor Pig a bit of reprieve. What is a clash? Unexpected change, more movement, perhaps in your job, your home, your career, your relationships. Do take extra care of you health this month, especially if the Snake is in your Day Pillar.
