The Transition from the Wood Dragon to the Wood Snake
January 5 - February 2
Each year the month of the Ox brings in the energy of a new Gregorian calendar year and gives us a month to transition quietly and gently into to a new energetic year in the Chinese calendar. The energy of the Ox is the most quiet of all the 'graveyard zodiac' signs, urging us slow down and to be still. However, this Dragon's year won't be going away peacefully. This relationship is known as a "Destruction" between the two zodiac graveyard signs. This final month in the Dragon Year could be a time of events and forces that tear old structures and systems down to make room for something new. It is fitting that we are reminded at the end the year of what can seem like a difficult ending, but which will also bring about a fresh start.
With the hustle and bustle of the holidays now behind us this is an ideal time to really pause and reflect on where you have been in the Dragon year and use what you have learned to chart your course for the year ahead, the Yi Si, Yin Wood Snake Year, just around the corner.
The Yin Fire Ox  pillar represents a soft lantern that gives off a gentle glow in the winter darkness. It also shows the path. It is an uplifting and enlightening energy that gives us guidance and vision so we can better understand who we are.

This is a helpful and hopeful energy, giving us insight and vision to better see who we are and where we are going. what we want to achieve. This month's yin energy can be used to reignite and jumpstart spiritual fire. Use what you learned in the Year of the Dragon to plan for the coming changing energetic shift as well as a good idea to have some backup plans in place, given the current turmoil.

The Lunar Year of the Snake begins on January 29, this month. On February 3, the energetic Solar New Year will end the Ox Month and usher in the Wood Snake Year.Â
The I Ching hexagram of this month is #17 called 'Following'. We are now fully in Period 9, which means that many of these transformational processes may unfold very rapidly and in an unsettling manner. This is all the more important to remain grounded in your spiritual practice as you enter the New Year. This hexagram shows the Thunder Trigram, which is the oldest son subordinating to the Lake Trigram, representing the youngest girl. The unusual dynamics are used to show a leader who is following instead of leading. Ancient texts continue to say that a situation cannot be favorable unless one can adapt to it and stops wearing themselves out by mistaken resistance.
 It is crucial to pick your battles carefully. It is not wise to exhaust yourself trying to change things at this moment when there are so many events that are rapidly evolving. This month, the wisdom of the I Ching advises that we turn inward to rest and recover so as to be able to take action when it is appropriate. When the wind of change, or even destruction is not in your favor, this is the most effective way to use energy. This month, follow your inner light before you charge ahead.
January Flying Stars:Â Everything is doubled!
Flying Stars is a traditional school of Feng Shui. The Flying Stars are energies, some positive and some negative that move around the space periodically. Enhanced, these energies can bring abundance, health and happiness or wreak havoc on our lives if left unremedied. Following the Flying Stars helps us stay one step ahead of luck and manage change.
In January 2025, the visiting Monthly Star in each palace are actually the same as the respective Annual Star, doubling its effects. This can mean enhanced blessings in some areas and intensified challenges in others. While this guide uses general Flying Stars placements, each home, office or building have unique configurations. For a personalized analysis, feel free to reach out.
South East - Dragon and Snake, Gua- 4
Let’s start with the challenges this month. The South East, with its double 2 energy, suggests health issues might surface, especially for the eldest or only daughter in the household. To counteract it, add some Wood Element to this area, like a healthy plant, and try to minimize time spent here. As an extra precaution, keep an eye on your bank accounts for any suspicious activity, as this sector relates to Prosperity and Abundance, particularly in the form of assets and savings.Â
West - Rooster, Gua 7
The West is another tricky spot, with a challenging double 5 combination that could bring significant health risks to any family member, but particularly to children. If your bedroom, office, or main living area is located here, it’s best to avoid spending much time in this sector in this sector throughout January. Remedy the space with plenty of Metal elements—think metal objects Metal weights. TO SUPPRESS THE ENERGIES, YOU CAN USE METAL OBJECTS. AND, NO LOUD NOISES AND MINIMAL USAGE WILL HELP. Hopefully, you still have your Metal Cure in place from 2024. Do NOT remove it yet!
In the Centre of the home, the double 3 combination stirs up potential for conflicts around health and wellbeing, which might spill into other areas of life. If any health issues arise, don’t hesitate to get a second or even third opinion to ensure the best course of action.Â
South - Horse, Kua-9
The South, with its double 7 energy, is a hotspot for issues around theft, identity fraud and reputational harm. Secure doors and windows in this part of your home, double-check smoke alarms and ensure the stove and other appliances are turned off when not in use. Consider changing passwords, locking up important documents and protecting your credit cards with anti-theft sleeves.
East - Rabbit, Gua- 3
Don't worry it’s not all bad news! There’s plenty of positive energy to harness this month, starting in the East. This area is perfect for welcoming new beginnings, individuality and unity. With Star 1 doubled, it indicates Nobleman luck as well as future wealth, one of my favorite sectors this month. Spend as much time here as you can, make phone calls, write up your business plan for the coming year as well as keeping it well lit.
North - Rat, Gua 1
January should also be a prosperous month with double 8 wealth energy in the North. With this powerful combination, it’s an excellent time to focus on financial growth. To amplify this energy, consider adding a water feature or items representing flowing water to this area.
North West - Dog and Pig, Gua- 6
The North West offers supportive energy for academic pursuits, as well as romance. Love is in the air. Love, academic pursuits, and creative skills are in full bloom here. If you are single and spending a lot of time here, there is a high chance of attracting love. It's worth noting that the 4 Star is becoming less auspicious as we progress further into Period 9. It’s still a good time to work on intellectual projects but approach them thoughtfully.
South West - Sheep and Monkey, Gua-2
The double star 9 governs the South West, another favorite sector of mine. This has excellent energies this month, especially in Period 9, which signifies wealth, prosperity, and good fortune that compounds and lasts for generations. It is a promising indication for all women, especially mothers and matriarchs. It will multiply fame, success in career, promotion, and education, and can attract wealth. Spend time here; make it bright and noisy.
